This past weekend, I photographed my first wedding as a full film wedding photographer, and it completely shifted the way I see wedding photography.
From the moment the day began, everything felt different; slower, more intentional. Instead of rushing or overshooting, I found myself fully present by watching, anticipating, and choosing each frame with care. Shooting a wedding entirely on film brought me back to the reason I fell in love with documenting weddings in the first place.
Film changes the way you approach a wedding day. As a full film wedding photographer, there’s no constant reviewing or second guessing. There’s trust in your eye, your timing, and the moment in front of you. Every image is created with purpose, which makes the final gallery feel more meaningful and connected to the experience itself.
I documented this wedding using both 35mm wedding photography and medium format wedding photography, and the combination felt seamless. 35mm allowed me to capture movement and candid, in between moments as they naturally unfolded; the laughter, quiet interactions, the energy of the day. Medium format gave me space to slow down even further, creating portraits and detail images that feel refined, soft, and timeless.
What stood out most to me was how the day felt. There was a calmness to everything. Without the pressure to capture everything in excess, I was able to focus on what actually mattered. Nothing felt forced, felt rushed and it was simply honest, documentary storytelling.
A full film wedding photographer documents a wedding day entirely on film rather than digital cameras, typically using formats like 35mm and medium format. This approach creates a more intentional and nostalgic photography experience, resulting in images that feel true to life, emotional, and timeless.
Film requires careful attention to light, composition, and timing. Every frame is captured with purpose, allowing couples to be fully present in their day while it’s documented in a thoughtful and unobtrusive way.
As I finished this wedding, I realized it wasn’t just about trying something new. It felt like a shift.
There’s something really special about photographing a wedding and not immediately seeing the results, about trusting the process and allowing the images to exist first as moments, not previews on a screen. As I prepared to send these rolls off for development, I felt a level of excitement that I haven’t felt in a long time.
Because of this experience, I want to offer full film coverage for couples who are drawn to a more intentional, nostalgic approach within their wedding photography.
These film wedding experiences are available for both local celebrations and destination weddings across the U.S. and worldwide. Whether it’s a full wedding weekend or a more intimate day, film allows your story to be documented in a way that feels grounded, emotional, and true to how it all unfolded.
Film photography is also available for engagement sessions, elopements, anniversary sessions, and editorial shoots. Whether you’re planning a full film wedding or want to incorporate film photography into your session, there are options to create something that aligns with your vision.
Let’s make it happen.
