A Love-Filled Barndominium: A Unique New Build Photoshoot in Holley, NY
Holley, New York is home to a special new build that embodies love, hard work, and a deep sense of family. One of my fiancé’s good friends from high school and his wife, Emily have spent the last year building their dream home on 10 acres of beautiful land. Their barndominium is more than just a house; it’s a testament to their dedication, passion, and the future they are creating together.
A true labor of love, the couple enlisted local Amish craftsmen to build the frame of their barndominium. From there, they took on the immense challenge of finishing the home themselves, handling everything by hand and putting in countless hours of work. From sunup to sundown, they have poured their energy into making this house a home, and every inch of it reflects their commitment and care.
This property isn’t just where they’re building their home—it’s also where they exchanged their wedding vows. On August 31, 2024, they tied the knot on their land, surrounded by friends, family, and the same breathtaking landscape that will soon surround their finished home. The deep connection between their love story and their home build made this photoshoot an incredibly sentimental and meaningful experience.
Last weekend, I had the opportunity to photograph their home while it was still in the early construction phase. With open walls and exposed beams, we documented a moment in time that won’t last forever but will always be a part of their story. One of the most heartwarming details? They wrote personal quotes and Bible verses on the wooden beams before covering them with drywall. These messages will forever be embedded in their home, a beautiful foundation of faith and love beneath the walls.
Photographing homes in the early stages of construction is a unique and powerful experience. It captures the raw emotion, hard work, and anticipation of what’s to come. This barndominium photoshoot was about more than just documenting a house; it was about preserving the journey of a couple building their future together, one nail and beam at a time.
Barndominiums have become increasingly popular for their rustic charm, spacious layouts, and energy efficiency. They blend modern living with a farmhouse aesthetic, offering both durability and comfort. This particular barndominium in Holley, NY, stands out because it is entirely custom-built by the homeowners themselves, making it a true reflection of their personality and dreams.
Being a part of this barndominium photoshoot was such a meaningful experience. Seeing the love, dedication, and excitement that went into every detail of this home was inspiring. I can already picture the cozy gatherings, holiday celebrations, and everyday moments that will fill this space with love for years to come.
